Happy Birthday You Noseless Bassist!




"/// 26th of May, 11:58 pm.///" The blonde sighed playing with his noseband on the nightstand. "/// 11:59…///" He blinked as the minute was passing by. Next to him, on the bed, Ruki was sleeping. The shorter man's chest was moving up and down as he was breathing. He frowned in his dream, changing his position, now facing Reita.
"/// Like I would fall for that again.///" The blonde rolled his eyes counting the seconds.  "/// 5…4…3…2…1.///" Reita closed his eyes in disappointment waiting for Ruki to suddenly jump up screaming like mad "Happy Birthday, Rei!" and at the door, in the middle of the night – in the first minutes of 27th of April – Aoi Uruha and Kai to come with lots of food – and especially drink – saying "Happy Birthday, you noseless!".
That happened every year. And he always fell in their trap. When he was in the sweetest dream they had to wake him up roughly. He once tried to do it to Uruha too but, unfortunately for him, Aoi had always a special surprise – always the same – for Uruha on his birthday so they couldn't be disturbed.
But this year…. This year Reita decided to show them that it can't happen again.
"/// 00:01.///" No screaming Ruki. No door suddenly opened. Just silence. "/// 00:02//" Nothing. "///No… can't happen this year. Not this year. This was supposed to be MY chance!///" He was bursting inside but he kept himself silent outside because of Ruki. "///Maybe my clock isn't well set.///" He thought. He checked his cell phone but he found the same thing. "/// It's already 00:03 and nothing happened.///"
He carefully raised up from bed, trying to not wake Ruki up. But he failed. Damn, sometimes he hated so much that Ruki felt every of his movements even when he was asleep.
"What are you doing Rei~?" Ruki asked trying to see the other through the dark.
"I…erm… I was just thirsty. I'm gonna get some water."
The blonde went outside of the bedroom leaving Ruki with a confused face. He had a glass of water on his nightstand.
"Bassist. Who can understand them?" Ruki moaned as he fast fell asleep.
The clock in the livingroom was now showing 00:07 when he came back from kitchen. That couldn't be possible. Did they really have to stop doing that when he was ready to show them that he can stop them? What were they? Mind readers?
"Maybe… maybe I didn't set my clocks for the summer time." He whispered to himself. "I'll wait one more hour." Though he decided that, it was surely wrong. If he hadn't set the clocks for summer time, it would be 1 am.
He sat on the couch like a rock for one hour, but nothing happened. Ruki had for sure fell asleep and probably Aoi was fucking Uruha at that moment. About Kai… he was burning his kitchen for sure again in the middle of the night.
Though they annoyed him every year, waking him up every night, he was missing that now. It had become a habit to wake up in the first minutes of 27th of May. It was even more that New Year. He raised up from the couch, going to the bedroom with small steps. Maybe they were coming. Maybe the traffic was too crowded and they had to wait. He was moving so slow because he waited for them to break the door in every moment. But it didn't happen. He pressed the door knob of the bedroom. He saw Ruki sleeping with his hands spread on the blonde's side of bed.
"They forgot it. Even Ruki…" Reita thought. He had never imagined that he would want them to come. He had never imagined that he would feel like that if they didn't – alone. How much he swore and yelled at them every 27th April of every year.
He sat on the bed, carefully not to wake Ruki up.



The next morning it was the same as every morning. Ruki would wake up first, going to the kitchen, trying to cook the breakfast alone and Reita would wake up because of the rotten smell that was filling the whole apartment.
Reita would come and help him for the breakfast, but in the end, they would end up ordering something from the restaurant near their apartment.
"And that's why human race needs women." Ruki concluded. "I mean, we, men, are not made to cook."
"Say that to Kai." Reita said obviously faking his smile.
"It's our secret okay?" Ruki asked trying to ignore Reita's faking.
"Among the others like that one that you hate when I tease you and yell 'come on idiot! Fuck me already!' "
"How funny." Ruki sarcastically said.
"You know… I always top in bed." Reita said.
"So what?"
"So that means that you are the feminine part here. So… you should learn to cook. Really." Reita concluded.
"Oh, and I should take Uruha and go at cooking sessions. Then, buy a pink apron and wear it every day. DON'T YOU WANT ME TO GET PREGNANT?!" The shorter man almost yelled.
"Nononono. I don't want two Rukis around. One is enough to kill me mentally."


The breakfast conversation with Ruki almost made him to forget about last night. But when they went to the studio he remembered again. They remembered him again.
"Help me. Please." Kai said desperately running to them.
"With what?" Ruki asked laughing at his desperate face.
"Aoi and Uruha are talking just about their kinky night and they're planning another for tonight. And they are doing it loud."
"Hmm… I should ask them for few tips." Ruki ran to the two guitarists in the recording room.
"Oh God…." Kai face-palmed. "Please, Reita-kun. don't do that too."
"Calm down Kai." Reita smiled.
He couldn't believe that. He just couldn't believe that. It was 27th of April and no 'Happy Birthday' for him. No cake. There were just the letters from the fans and… that's so. His friends had forgotten. Tyhey really had.
"Ermm… Guys?" He asked when they took a little break. it was 4 pm. He had already become obsessed with the clock.
"Yeah, what's up?" Aoi answered for all of them.
"Have you… forgotten something?" He asked.
"Oh, God, how could I forget?!" Uruha said frowning. He raised up from the couch and went out, probably to his car. "I bought it for you, Kai." He said smiling when he got back. "I was driving through the town and I accidentally saw it. It was like screaming 'Kai needs me'." He laughed.
"Do you realize that Kai had tones of books like that?" Aoi said, obviously jealous that his lover didn't bring him something.
"I start to believe what fans say. Are you sure you are a man, Uruha? Aoi?" Ruki asked laughing. "You buy a man something…. Manly."
"Like what? Playboy magazines?"  Aoi asked continuing the joke.
" I wouldn't mind receiving that either." Kai made them all laugh.
"Don't be jealous, you stupid!" Ruki said to Aoi. "You've got your own playboy home."
"Just imagine that. Uruha in a bunny latex short costume. With bunny years and tail." Kai said.
"Oh god!" Ruki was laughing hysterically.
"Don't you dare to imagine him like that. Only I can do that!" Aoi said, showing his possessive side.
"I wasn't meaning that." Reita said calmly. He was that calm, that the others were really worrying for him. He didn't laugh about the jokes that they just said. Not at all.
"Hey, Rei, what happened?" Ruki asked placing a hand on the blonde's shoulder.
"What day is today?" He asked.
"Ermm… Thursday?" Uruha said not sure about his answer.
"Date."
"Come on. Check a calendar!" Aoi laughed.
"It's my birthday damn it!" He burst. He raised up from the couch with a red angry expression. "Why are you laughing?!" He said when he saw Uruha covering his mouth with his hands and Ruki's smile growing bigger second by second. "I wasted my last night waiting for you to come at 12 at night and be the first to tell me happy birthday! I stayed awake for that! And you didn't come! You didn't wake up! You just ignored me! And not even today, when it's really my birthday you are not saying anything!" he said, stopping to get the necessary air.
"Reita…" Aoi said laughing almost hysterically.
"What?!" He asked obviously furious.
"It's 26th of May." Everyone burst into laughing except the bassist.
"Wha-" He remained speechless.
"Oh my god. It's even better than what we do to him every year! And he did it to himself!" Kai said putting his hands on his stomach because of the laughter.
"But…but I… I stayed last night and…. I watched the clock second by second and…."
"And you didn't think to check a calendar too, did you?"  Uruha said.
"I thought that… I thought that you've forgotten me." Reita said.
"Aw, poor baby." Ruki said hugging his lover.
"Come on. How could we forget to torture you? Be serious man…." Aoi said.

Obviously, that day Reita forgot about his plan, standing awake and waiting for them.  And Ruki helped at that too. He gave him a long unforgettable love making at that night, tiring him, making him fall asleep immediately. At 00:00, in the first minute of 27th of May, Kai Aoi and Uruha came with lots of food, joining Ruki who was already singing Happy Birthday to him. However sleepy he was, he had a silly smile on his face. Maybe they were annoying but they were his friends. And he would never change that.
